Woman Scars este un proiect foto-audio ce adună laolată portretele unor femei pe corpul cărora timpul a lăsat mărturiile-cicatrici ale unor evenimente adverse ale vieții: boli, operații, pierderi, accidente, maltratări, evenimente care, departe de constitui o infirmitate, dimpotrivă, le-au transformat pe purtătoarele lor în femei mai puternice, mai înțelepte, mai încrezătoare, mai libere.

Fotografia fiecărei femei este însoțită de o poveste audio relatată de ea însăși. Aceasta este povestea cicatricii înfățișată de portret și povestea evenimentului ce a produs-o, aducând transformarea în viața purtătoarei ei.

Proiectul are ca punct de plecare auto-portretul autoarei, ce a utilizat propria poveste pentru a deschide un dialog empatic cu femeile care au fost fotografiate și intervievate.

Câteodată, evenimentele ce lasă urme pe corpul nostru reprezintă mult mai mult decât durerea cauzată pe moment. Ele pot marca începutul unei noi vieți.

Despre autoare

Eliza Zdru este regizoare de film documentar. A realizat două documentare de lungmetraj și în prezent lucrează la al treilea. Woman Scars este primul ei proiect fotografic prin care încearcă să creeze povești vizuale de impact care dau forță vocii feminine. Eliza este de asemenea profesoară de film și fotografie la Școala Americană Internațională din București.

Woman Scars is a photo-audio project that gathers together portraits of women whose bodies bear scars which are the testimonies of adverse life events: illnesses, surgeries, losses, accidents, abuse - events that, far from constituting a disability, on the contrary, have transformed their bearers into stronger, wiser, more confident, and freer women.

The photograph of each woman is accompanied by an audio story narrated by herself. This is the story of the scar depicted in the portrait and the story of the event that caused it, bringing about the transformation in her life.

The project has, as its starting point, the self-portrait of the author who used her own story to open an empathetic dialogue with the women who were photographed and interviewed.

Sometimes, events that leave traces on our bodies represent much more than the pain caused in the moment. They can mark the beginning of a new life.

About the author

Eliza Zdru is a documentary filmmaker. She directed two feature-length documentary films and is now working on her third. Woman Scars is her first photographic project that aims to create impactful visual stories that give force to the feminine voice. Eliza is also a film and photography teacher at the American International School of Bucharest.

The project is co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration.
